The NADA Protocol

Drug_addiction.jpg

In the USA, the NADA protocol was first introduced on an outpatient basis in 1974 at the Lincoln Memorial Hospital, a city facility in the South Bronx area of New York City. By the mid 1980’s the success of this unique procedure had become so evident that treatment facilities across the USA began incorporating acupuncture into their treatment programmes.

The NADA protocol consists of the insertion of five, small, fine, sterile stainless steel needles under the surface of the skin on specific sites in the outer ear.  The recipients sit quietly in a group setting for up to 45 minutes, relaxing. These five points are standard points for the treatment of substance misuse and anxiety management.

Acupuncture treatment for substance misuse has shown to be clinically effective, cost efficient, drug free and compatible across cultures.

The NADA protocol is most effective when used in combination with other treatment modalities to meet the professional standards of the field. The combined application of acupuncture with counselling and self-help / support groups, etc. enhances treatment effectiveness.

Watch "Unimagined Bridges", a NADA-US produced video to hear people talk about their experiences of recieving NADA treatments, and Practitioners talking about the difference it has made in communities around the world.

Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge and morning sickness.

Royal baby news: Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge is expecting another baby and is already suffering from the severe morning sickness which blighted her first pregnancy.

Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, also known as morning sickness, is very common in early pregnancy. It's unpleasant but it doesn’t put your baby at any increased risk, and usually clears up between weeks 12 and 14 of pregnancy.
Just like Kate, some women get a very severe form of nausea and vomiting, called hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), which can be very serious. It may need specialist treatment, sometimes in hospital.
However, a recent study shows that acupuncture can offer some relief!

Is my acupuncture treatment working?

heart-photo.jpeg

Although it can occasionally happen, it is unusual for an acupuncture treatment to resolve a problem in one visit; the number of treatments required for any given condition is often influenced by a number of factors, such as how long the problem has existed and whether it is a mild or severe case of the condition.
Each of us will manifest our pathologies in a different way, so it follows that each acupuncture treatment is individualised to fit the uniqueness of the patient, taking into account the symptoms of their body, mind and spirit.
This article serves to illustrate this process, in terms of regaining one’s overall health and wellbeing, which can often be measured by a number of other factors, such as:
• sleeping better
• being more aware of things
• being more emotional
• having more energy
• being less stressed
• having more regular body functions.
